Element of Art: Value
Principle of Art: Rhythm/Movement
Element of Art: Shapes
Principle of Art: Emphasis
Element of Art: Color
For this project, we were required to take 12 photographs of things that show the different elements and principles of art. Many of the pictures that I selected were found around Northern's campus, and there was a lot of really neat and interesting things that had many of the elements and principles, such as lines, shapes, colors, shade, and value. The five photographs listed above are photos that I felt were some of the better ones that I had that represented a principle or element very well. In this case, I selected photographs that had value, rhythm and movement, shapes, emphasis, and color.
An extension activity that I think would be very cool would be to have students select a favorite photo that they took and have them try to sketch the photograph by hand and color it while also making the particular element or principle stand out in the picture. It would be a great way to make it stand out while also giving students a chance to expand their art skills and knowledge.
